ROUND 1 v CLUNES

We started our 2018 season in the best possible fashion on Saturday with the club winning every game of football for the day. Beautiful weather, a good crowd, plenty of familiar faces and good spirit, what a way to start the year.

The Under 12s started the day with several players helping Clunes out with numbers and having a very good win as well. Skipton 12.12-84 Clunes 2.0-12

The Under 15s also won well, again lending players to the opposition which led to the unlucky Xavier Connell who was filling in for Clunes receiving a knock on the ribs as well as concussion. He went to hospital to be checked over and spent the night. Fortunately Xavier is OK and well on the road to a full recovery. This was another very good win with entertaining football being played. Skipton 25.17 -167 Clunes 0.0-0

The Under 18s played a very exciting brand of fast , run on football, fantastic to watch and especially good considering 2 of the better and bigger players were called up for senior duties. Skipton 9.12-66 Clunes 7.9-51

The reserves were the real surprise packet, after last year when they didn’t ever threaten to win a game , they transformation was astonishing. It shows the strength of our list and importance of having players vying for senior selection. There were a few tears in a few eyes after the good win. Skipton 14.17-101 Clunes 3.6-24

It is only round one but the senior side went as well as could be hoped, hard running creative football was a pleasure to watch. Familiar players returning and improved in their time away, new recruits showing class and existing players blossoming with the opportunity to play in a better side. Skipton 16.14 -110 Clunes 5.6-36

With lots of new coaches we have lots of things to get settled for the season ahead.

A grade coaches this year are Amelia Pollock and Hayley Jones and Amelia has provided this rounds report. Hopefully we will do a different grade each round!

A bright and sunny Saturday saw a new look Skipton A Grade side step on to the court to play Clunes. With minimal court time before round one and a quick warm up saw the girls raring and ready to go! First quarter we aimed to keep the talk up and play calm and steady netball. We started off a bit scratchy, but settled and started to play strong by the end. Our second quarter was the best with the girls taking on what was asked of them. The third and fourth quarter were still consistent but the heat and fitness got us in the end unfortunately losing by 20 goals. Laura Fay dominated in defence, working well with Liz Barr, winning herself the best on court award. Ella McLean won the $10 SkipCoin award, in her first A Grade game, for her hard running in the centre. Caitlin Bell won the Skinny Sisters Cafe Voucher for her drive down the court and backing up on the third line. While these girls won the awards this week, the team has shown some great passages of play and lots of potential. Bring on next week!
